Course Description
Students in Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition will engage in the careful reading and critical analysis of imaginative literature. Through the close reading of selected texts, students should deepen their understanding of the ways writers use language to provide both meaning and pleasure to their readers. As they read, students should consider a work's structure, style, and themes as well as such smaller-scale elements as the use figurative language, imagery, symbolism, and tone, Students are to take the Advanced Placement Exam for college credit; credit is granted by the particular university based upon scores earned on the exam.
The syllabus listed here was used in previous years and is subject to change. However, it will still give you an excellent overview of what the course entails and what is expected of AP students.

These assignment sheets are from previous years and are subject to change, but will give you an idea of the writing expectations for the course.
These essays are completed out of class and are written on the supplemental novel the student chooses for each quarter. Unlike in class essays, they must be typed, MLA formatted, and include in-text citations. |
